Remco Toys. Where Big Ideas Become Play

We’ve always believed toys should do more than sit on shelves. They should launch adventures, build worlds, and make kids dream bigger.

A group of toys stacked together against a solid black background. The pile is anchored by a large, blue and red Transformer-style robot standing in the back. In front of it are several colorful plastic vehicles, including a white race car, a pink car, and an orange airplane. A small blue Lego-style figure sits atop the white car, and a red figure is nestled at the base.

Still Making Toys That Do Stuff

Remco started in 1960 in a cramped warehouse in Harrison, New Jersey, with one guy who thought kids deserved toys that actually did something. Not toys that looked good in catalogs. Not toys designed by committee to hit price points. Toys that moved, lit up, made noise, and gave kids a reason to use their hands instead of just their eyes.

We made battery-operated robots when everyone else was still pushing painted tin. We put working motors in toy cars before it was standard. We built science kits that taught real principles, not watered-down approximations. Some of those decisions made business sense. Most of them just made better toys.

The company changed hands a few times over the decades — that’s the toy industry for you — but the original idea stuck around because it was a good one. Kids don’t need another plastic thing to look at. They need something to figure out, take apart, put back together, and maybe break a little in the process. That’s how play actually works. We just try to give them better raw material.

Bringing Back the Magic

“Found the same Johnny Reb Cannon my brother and I fought over in 1962. Opened the box and suddenly I’m eight years old again, lying on the carpet in our living room. Worth every penny for that feeling.”

Gary M.

“My dad still talks about his Remco Science Kit from the 50s. Got him one of the vintage pieces for his 75th birthday. He spent the whole afternoon showing my grandkids how it worked. Three generations, one toy, endless stories.”

Linda R.

“The build quality on these older Remco pieces puts a lot of modern toys to shame. Picked up a Space Commander Walkie Talkie set—the thing still works. That’s 60+ years of engineering holding up.”
